Verizon Wireless to Pay Refunds for Data Charges

Verizon Wireless said on Sunday that it would pay up to $90 million in refunds to 15 million cellphone customers who were wrongly charged for data sessions or Internet use, one of the largest customer refunds by a telecommunications company.

It’s good to see the FCC getting some results from Verizon; $90 million is nothing to sneeze at.

Hopefully, this settlement is a clear message to Verizon that it cannot continue to make it easy for consumers to accidentally get online, blame them for their ignorance, and add small — but irritating — charges to their bills.

Beyond this issue is the hope that FCC will continue to call out the wireless industry’s anti-consumer behavior, in all its forms.
