but the horse in the above picture has been shot in the leg.  He's running around Baghdad, no doubt confused by the state of things. 

Sometimes the treatment of animals in photographs and films can be a powerful statement about how we treatment other human beings. That’s kind of my take on animal rights in general…

But there’s a great scene in Renoir’s Rules of the Game in which a party of French aristocrats goes rabbit hunting. It’s a long, cruel scene that anticipates the killing of a main character later in the film by a hunting rifle and, more powerfully, the coming war in Europe.
