Security researchers have discovered that Apple’s iPhone keeps track of where you go – and saves every detail of it to a secret file on the device which is then copied to the owner’s computer when the two are synchronised.

I can’t say I’m surprised by this news, but it’s still really, really bad. Coupled with the discovery that cell phone carriers are tracking our every move, the time is nigh for more projects like the aaaaGuardian Project, which is developing secure mobile apps and ROMs that protect us from the prying eyes of all those corporations are can’t seem to keep their hands off us.

Lest you think that online and mobile privacy is a problem for dissidents in repressive countries, think again — the devices and platforms that enable free speech can also be used for much more nefarious purposes. We need to work harder on owning our own communications hardware and infrastructure.
